PCM - Multistandard: implemented
14 September 2011
PCM is the inclusive modulation platform by SyES.
Suitable to operate stand-alone in several versatile configurations and to be integrated in transmission systems of any complexity.
Total digital processing and a powerful computational platform make PCM compatible with the major standards for Digital and Analog TV. Changing from one stan
dard to another takes just a click, no setup or uploading.
System description
Very compact, PCM delivers over 10Wrms (25Wp.s.) in a 1U module. Also available the PCM130 model, able to deliver up to 130Wrms in 2U size.
PCM features linear and non-linear pre-correction, both static (i.e., based on pre-stored tables) or adaptive, with real-time evaluation of the system transfer function. In this way, the very good "native" signal quality can be preserved, compensating for possible distortions introduced by the power system.
The pre-correction, together with the direct-to-RF modulation, are keys for frequency agility. The NPU version of PCM totally exploits this feature to implement a compact multichannel transmitter in n+1 configuration, with up to 5 channels + reserve, up to 40W each, in a 5U subrack module.
PCM can be interfaced either directly, through the front panel display, or utilizing a local/remote connection, through web pages or SNMP protocol. The control unit can directly supervise also the operation of multiple-amplifier transmitters.
Configurations and outfits
Further to the exciter/transmitter implementation with baseband input, PCM is available in a number of other configurations that effectively widen its application scope.
When operating as heterodyne translator or SFN gap filler, PCM also includes the echo-canceller functionality to increase the in-out decoupling. Another option is regenerative repeater. As a re-transmitter, PCM receives the input signal from satellite (DVB-S/S2) or IP (GBE).
PCM outfits extend from hierarchical modulation to double ASI input - hitless switching. Built-in GPS receiver for SFN synchronization.
